Fairhope Arts & Crafts Festival: Everything You Need to Know

Fairhope Arts & Crafts Festival 2026 | Dates, Parking & Tips

The Fairhope Arts & Crafts Festival is ranked among the Top 15 art shows in the nation by Sunshine Artist Magazine, drawing more than 250,000 visitors to the streets of downtown Fairhope each March. In 2026, the festival celebrates its 74th year, running Friday through Sunday, March 20–22, from 10am to 5pm daily. Admission is free.

Whether this is your first visit or your twentieth, here is everything you need to know before you go.

A Brief History

The Fairhope Arts & Crafts Festival began in 1952 as a small community art show and has grown into one of the most respected outdoor festivals in the country. What started as a local gathering now draws artists from across the nation and visitors from every state. For over seven decades, the festival has been held every third weekend in March on the flower-lined streets of downtown Fairhope.

The proceeds support the Festival Foundation, a nonprofit that has given more than $350,000 to organizations and students in the Fairhope community since 2016. When you attend, you are supporting local arts education and community programs.

What to Expect

More than 200 artists and craftspeople line the streets of downtown Fairhope, showcasing original works across every medium — painting, pottery, glass, wood, sculpture, jewelry, photography, fibers and more. As a juried art show, the festival awards a Best of Show, Chairman’s Award, and medium-specific awards to standout artists. Live entertainment and food vendors fill in the gaps.

The festival spans Fairhope Avenue, South Section Street, North Church Street and De La Mare Avenue. The atmosphere is part art gallery, part block party. Fairhope’s oak-lined streets and flower beds provide the backdrop, and the whole town turns out. It is relaxed, walkable and family friendly.

The 2026 theme is “Classic Fairhope in Black and White,” celebrating the timeless beauty and rich history of this unique Gulf Coast community.

Getting There and Parking

Downtown parking is free but fills up early — and that is an understatement. Streets for blocks in every direction are lined with cars by mid-morning on Saturday. Here are your best options:

Get there early. Street parking downtown is first come, first served. The public parking garage behind the Hampton Inn on North Church Street is the largest option.

Use the shuttle. Five dollars per person for unlimited rides all day. Pick up at the Fairhope Recreation Center where parking is free, or at Plantation Pointe Shopping Center off Greeno Road. Shuttles run 9:45am to 5:30pm.

Ride a bike. A free bike valet operates in front of the library during festival hours.

Church parking lots. First Baptist, St. Lawrence and Fairhope United Methodist all allow parking, some for a small donation. Not available during services.

Handicapped parking is available at the City lot at the corner of Fairhope Avenue and Bancroft Street.

Note: golf carts, bikes, scooters and skateboards are not permitted inside the festival grounds.

Festival Food at Arts & Crafts

Festival vendors serve everything from southern BBQ and fresh squeezed lemonade to craft beer and kettle corn. But do not overlook the local restaurants — downtown Fairhope spots stay open all weekend with full menus and indoor seating, which makes for a welcome break when the sun is high or when you want to sit down for a proper meal.

Options are abundant in the designated festival area. Learn more about the best restaurants in Fairhope in our local restaurant guide. If you are planning to stay for dinner, make a reservation — festival weekends fill up fast.

Bringing the Family

The Kids Art Tent on South Church Street runs activities throughout the day — face painting, clay projects, birdhouse building and art sessions with local Fairhope artists. It is close to Fairhoper’s Community Park so younger kids have room to run.

Tips from a Local

Friday morning is the least crowded. By Saturday afternoon the streets are packed. Wear comfortable shoes — you will be on your feet all day on pavement. Bring cash since some vendors prefer it and the food lines move faster. The weather in March can swing from the 50s to the 80s so layers are smart. The festival runs rain or shine. Budget more time than you think — most people underestimate how much there is to see.

After the Festival Closes

The festival wraps up at 5pm each day, but that does not mean the evening is over. Downtown Fairhope restaurants fill up quickly with festival-goers looking for dinner — making a reservation in advance is strongly recommended. A walk down to the Fairhope Municipal Pier at sunset is a perfect way to end the day. The pier sits at the foot of the bluffs and faces west across Mobile Bay, and March evenings often deliver some of the best skies of the year.
